About the Project
Project Matuwa is an annual Youth Expedition Project (YEP) under the National University of Singapore (NUS) Rotaract Club to Bago City, Philippines.
"Matuwa" is Tagalog for rejoice or happy. The logo shows a human and a heart that signifies love. The action of a heart being flung out by a human reflects what one can do; spread love and rejoice in the act of giving.
Project Matuwa 2022 will be embarking on a Youth Expedition Programme (YEP), which includes local service activities and an overseas service learning trip to the Bago City, Philippines in December 2022. This year is our eight iteration and our seventh time returning back to Bago City and working with our long-term partners Singapore Children’s Society (Singapore) and Today’s Responsive Youths (TRY).
We will be focusing on Sustainability and Education, with our primary goal to foster a love for learning and encourage sustainable living. On top of conducting educational lessons for the students of Ramon Torres Bacong National High School in Bago City, we are also hoping to refurbish their school library with new books and furniture, as well as building them a proper ceiling for heat insulation. As truancy and drop-out rates in Bago City is high, we hope to give the students a conducive environment to cultivate their interests in school. We also hope to increase sustainability through installing water filtration systems in their school to provide clean and safe drinkable water for the students. We hope for our team members to find joy in the spirit of service, and be inspired to continue their service to the community.
