Youth Expedition Project (YEP)
Since its launch in February 2000 by our then Deputy Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, National Youth Council (NYC), Youth Expedition Project (YEP) has supported more than 24, 000 youth in over 1200 international Service-Learning projects to ASEAN, China and India. As one of Singapore's key youth volunteerism programmes, YEP aims to build up confident youth volunteers who can identify regional issues and needs, and make active contributions to communities both at home and abroad.
Every expedition is a learning opportunity. Participants get to interact with people from different communities, identify community needs and come up with workable solutions. Such needs can be identified from but not confined to several areas including the arts, culture and heritage, education, environment and conservation, healthcare, income generation, special needs, and technology transfer.
The YEP journey encompasses three phases which teams take 3 to 9 months to complete.
Phase 1: Teams organize and conduct the pre-expedition local project with the aim of learning more about their local community before heading overseas.
Phase 2: The actual implementation of the overseas expedition project.
Phase 3: Teams are encouraged to continue engaging the community through service after their return.

National Youth Council (NYC)
NYC was set up by the Singapore Government on 1 November 1989 as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs in Singapore and the focal point of international youth affairs.
On 1 January 2015, NYC began its operations as an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and housed two key institutions: Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) and Youth Corps Singapore. Together, the agency will drive youth development and broaden outreach to young Singaporeans and youth sector organisations.
Roles of NYC
1. Advocate active youth citizenry - positive youth development, engagement, leadership and voice for causes and issues - through research, programming and recognition.
2. Connect the youth sector for increased youth outreach. We partner youth leaders, youth sector influencers and organisations to build a vibrant youth ecosystem to create more local and overseas opportunities for our youths.
3. Enable holistic youth development and build the youth ecosystem, through funding, capacity building, resources and training.
